Timeless, this is how classic cars are often described. A car is considered classic if it achieves a collectible value. The most popular classic cars don’t have a particular genre. And there are many debates on how classic cars should be defined.
Let’s take a look at the evolution of automobiles first and see what vehicles were like before the classic cars.
The first on the list is the antique cars of the 1880-1916. It was previously called the horseless carriages. The first horseless carriage used steam. Nicholas-Joseph Cugnot was acknowledged for creating the first full scale steam vehicle. It can accommodate four passengers. Since then, the automobile has evolved in so many aspects like, designs, colors and power source. Much is credited for the early designs of these cars. It has paved way for the creation of many other classic cars.
1916-1924 is the age for Vintage automobiles. This is the result of the horseless carriage evolution. Everything was better with the car in this era. From its machinery down to its comfort, it was more comfortable to drive and ride in. The designs were also more stylish and fashionable. There were innovations in terms of rolling windows and other car features. It was also the era where durability was given importance. More affordable automobiles were available too. It made traveling easier. It was the age of discovery and creativity.
The classic cars came after the Vintage era. The term classic is often used to describe an older car. But many would contest. According to some, not all old cars can be considered classic. It has to exude elegance and sophistication before a car can be labeled as such. For some, before a car can be considered as classic, it has to be top ranked. It should represent quality and class. It should be brilliantly planned in terms of style and engineering.
Some of the popular names of classic cars include the following:
• Alfa Romeo, an Italian automobile manufacturer established in 1910.
• Bayerische Motoren Werke AG known as the BMW. It is a German automobile manufacturer popular for coming up with top class luxury cars.
• Jaguar Cars Limited. In 1922, it was founded as the Swallow Sidecar Company.
• Mercedes Benz, also known for manufacturing high performance and luxury cars.
• Rolls-Royce is another known brand of luxury cars. And;
• Volvo, it is also a known maker of luxury cars owned by Ford car.
Since classic cars are extremely valuable, utmost care should be given to it. Some simple tips of taking care a classic car includes taking care of the car’s paint. Its paint depicts the kind of owner it has. Since it is the exterior part of the vehicle, any irregularities on it will easily be noticed. To avoid repainting avoid scratching it, and learn to wash the car to maintain its beauty. Use the proper tools in washing the car. Use cotton or paint-safe washing mitt. Dry the car properly, this will prevent water spots.
Your car will remain timeless if you know how to take care of it.

Nowadays, manufacturer’s dealers and business owners that activate in the construction field have the possibility of choosing between new and used heavy construction equipment. Furthermore, they can take full advantage of the online market, online auctions and other such fast and easy ways of buying the needed heavy equipment. When talking about new versus used construction equipment, there are numerous debates and speculations regarding the benefits and disadvantages of choosing each of these two types of construction equipment.
The Relevant Financial Benefit
For sure, the main advantage that the used heavy equipment presents is the fact that it comes at a more reasonable price. The online market presents wide ranges of discounted construction equipment that might seem, financially speaking, incomparable with the prices for new equipment. Still, in some cases, this might not work as an advantage, since used machineries can imply extra repairing costs. But in order to make sure that the machine comes at a justified and advantageous price, the buyers need to be informed regarding the obsolesce and deterioration factors.
Performance and Functionality, just like New Heavy Equipment
Another advantage that needs to be taken into consideration when thinking about choosing between new and used construction equipment is the fact that the used machines might be as optimized and as good as the brand new ones. In many cases, the online auctions present machines that were never used or machines that were used for brief periods of time and function perfectly. Even though some buyers might be a little suspicious when dealing with the fact that used construction machinery might be as optimized and as functional as the new equipments, there are great selections of used trucks or used cranes that come with the same features and the same capabilities as the new ones, yet with a smaller price.
Certification and Guarantees
The online marketplace that deals with construction machineries has grown significantly and the explanation is quite simple. Nowadays, the Associated Equipment Distributors (AED) and Trade Yard, Inc have decided to collaborate and to provide professional inspections for the used construction heavy equipment that is sold online. As a result, more and more business owners and dealers have become interested in purchasing used heavy equipment online, instead of opting for new equipment. Basically, these certifications for quality and performance certify the customers that even though the machineries are labeled as “used”, they are safe and functional.
The Online Advantage
Since the used heavy equipment that are sold online are guaranteed by such reputable organizations, purchasing such heavy equipment using the specialized online market and auctions is considered, by many buyers, to be by far more advantageous then opting for the conventional types of purchases. First of all, all the information is provided by the sellers and it can be viewed with the help of some clicks, in a matter of seconds. Buyers can browse through thousands of used construction machines and then make their final decision, a fact which saves them time, efforts and other expenses.
Considering the facts above, there is no wonder that more and more buyers are interested in purchasing used construction machineries instead of new and more expensive ones. For now, the heavy equipment market online is gaining more popularity and success.

William Harley was 21 when he drew up plans for an 116cc engine, which was built and fitted to a pedal cycle. That was in 1901. He was joined by his friend Arthur Davidson, and together they worked on what was really a motor-bicycle. With the help of Arthur’s brother, Walter, they completed the project in 1903, however the boys were so dissatisfied with their first attempt, they scrapped the bike, but not without gaining valuable experience along the way.
The second machine, with a 405cc engine is classed by many as the first real Harley. The bigger engine and frame design meant this machine was something other than a motor-bicycle, and was a forerunner of the modern motorcycle. The prototype was built in a ten by fifteen feet shed belonging to the Davidson family, although the engine parts were said to be built at the West Milwaukee Railshops, where older brother William Davidson worked as a foreman. By 1905 this motorcycle was been offered to the public on a very limited basis. Three were sold that year.
The shed was eventually moved to the Juneau Avenue factory to serve as a reminder of the company’s humble beginnings, but sadly was accidentally demolished by contractors during the 1970’s.
By 1907 production had reached 150 motorcycles for sale, and in that year they began selling their machines to police departments. Also in that same year, a prototype 880cc, V-twin engine was developed and displayed at the Chicago Automobile show, although very few V-twin motorcycles were sold before 1910. By 1909 well over 1,000 motorcycles were being produced, a tribute not only to the boys’ engineering skills, but also to their entrepreneurial attributes.
In 1917, when the USA entered the arena of World War 1, new demands were placed on the company, as the military needed a robust, reliable machine. Harley-Davidson rose to the challenge and produced 20,000 motorcycles for sale for the war machine. This no doubt helped the company take their place as the World’s largest motorcycle manufacturer, and by 1920 they were producing over 28,000 units which were sold in 67 countries.
As war came again, Harley-Davidson copied the design of the BMWR71, and produced the XA model, as once again the company answered the demands of the United States Army and produced large numbers of motorcycles. They also built the WLC for the Canadian military, and sent more than 30,000 units to the Soviet Union.
After the war, the company flourished and the ‘Super 10′ and ‘Topper’ scooter were produced. In 1960 they bought fifty percent of Aeronautica Macchi’s motorcycle division and the importation of the 250cc horizontal single began. This bike wore the Harley-Davidson badge and was marketed as the Harley-Davidson Sprint. The company became sole owners of Aermacchi in 1974.
Under pressure from Harley-Davidson, the US government introduced a 45% tariff on imported motorcycles over 700cc, but instead of going head to head with the Japanese, they concentrated on the ‘Retro’ style of bike. Many of the components for these machines were built overseas, and the quality of the finished article took a turn for the better.
In 2008, a Harley-Davidson Museum opened in Milwaukee. The three building complex contains a large collection of motorcycles and other Harley-Davidson memorabilia. This represents a huge leap from the shed in the Davidson’s backyard and the austere years of the Great Depression. Proof enough that Harley-Davidson is more than a motorcycle, more than a company; it has become a way of life for motorcyclists all over the world. William and Arthur would be delighted.

Volvo Trucks is looking to increase their presence at the Russian truck market as the demand for trucks in the said country continue to increase. Recently, the Swedish truck manufacturer received an order for 300 trucks from the Russian logistics company Sunflower. The agreement between the two companies includes the financing for all the 30 trucks by way of the Volvo Financing Services. This order gives Volvo Trucks a big boost in increasing their popularity in the region.
Sunflower is one of the biggest logistics company in Russia and has businesses in the car hauling segment. The company also provides other services aside from transportation such as forwarding, storage, and customs clearance. The increasing demand for passenger cars in the country is the reason why Sunflower is expanding its fleet. This also means that Volvo is in a position to take advantage of the growing auto market in the country.
Lars Corneliusson, the General Director of Volvo Trucks Russia, has this to say: “This far-reaching order shows that Volvo Trucks is the most attractive business partner for advanced transport companies in Russia. It also proves that our focus on supporting and facilitating customers’ business development is effective.”
The order for the 300 Volvo trucks came after the Swedish company sent a delegation in the country in relation to the construction of a new plant in the country. The construction of the new plant is expected to begin shortly after the Swedish company signs an agreement with the Russian authorities. The truck assembly plant will be constructed in the city of Kaluga which is just 200 kilometers from Moscow. After the visit of Volvo’s delegation at the said city, it is expected that the local authorities and Volvo will soon reach an agreement. It is expected that the truck assembly plant will be opened and be fully operational by the year 2009.
As for the order from Sunflower, Volvo Trucks will be supplying them with FM trailer trucks. These trucks are powered by a D13 engine which can produce as much as 440 horsepower and that is around enough for towing large trailers. The safety of these vehicles is one major reason why Sunflower chose to order their trucks from Volvo. The use of safety features which are also used on smaller Volvo vehicles such as the S80, XC90 and the S40 with its reliable Volvo S40 parts are also used in these trucks to ensure the safety of truck drivers. The Swedish company is expected to start delivering the trucks by the end of this month and is expected to fill the order by early 2008.

Buying a new vehicle is a big decision that requires a lot of thought and research into what vehicle would be perfect for your needs. First you have to decide what type of vehicle you would like to purchase such as a car, SUV car, truck or van. Once that decision is made, there are numerous makes and models to choose from. Just when you think all the decisions are over with, there are even more decisions to be made concerning the accessories and vehicle packages available. For cars decisions include choosing if you would like a moon roof and/or a spoiler, whereas truck accessories include running boards, extend cab features and bed liners.
Before you choose what vehicle you would like to purchase or even if you are going to purchase a vehicle at all, you need to take your finances into consideration. How much money you can spend on a vehicle determines what type of vehicle you can buy. There are all sorts of vehicles out there that fit into everyone ’s price range. There are economy cars that are a perfect fit for someone looking for a new car but do not want to take out a huge loan. Then there are luxury vehicles that tend to be higher in price just like SUVs and sports cars. Trucks and vans also tend to have different series as well to cover every price range. Often times individuals will buy a base line model car they can afford and add accessories such as running boards and spoilers at a later time.
Now that the finances are decided it is time to choose the type of vehicle. Different cars offer different benefits so it is important to research what is important to you. If you are looking for a vehicle that has a good gas mileage you may want to steer clear of trucks, SUVs and cars with bigger engines. On the other side if you want something with a lot of room and storage space as well as something that can trailer something such as a boat for sale, then a truck for sale or SUV is the best type of vehicle to choose. There are numerous factors that can affect your decision so it is important to be thorough so that you do not regret your decision in the future.
Each make and model available comes with different accessories and features. Higher end models offer more features than the economy brands and definitely come with a heftier price tag. For someone that does not need or want all the glitz and glamour that comes with an expensive car, an economy car is the way to go. However if you do want all those accessories and are fearful of the hefty price tag, there are ways to go around that and save some money.
One way to get around the hefty price tag is to buy a baseline vehicle and add on different accessories. Some accessories and upgrades require that you add them to the vehicle right away before you purchase it. These accessories and upgrades include the type of engine and what the interior is made of. Other accessories, such as running boards for trucks and SUVS and spoilers for cars can be added over time so that it is not a big price tag at one time. You can save money by ordering running boards and spoilers online or through other auto retailers at a lower price than with the car dealership offers them for. The more you research, the more money you can save.

Trailer hitches enable most types of trucks to haul cargo. Without having the proper kind of hitch, it is impossible for a truck to attach and pull trailers.
SUVs truck for sale and pickup trucks
that have trailer hitches can be used for a wide range of purposes. You use them in pulling boats, cargo trailer for sale, campers and many other items. You can find several kinds of trailer hitches. In pickup trucks for sale, they have what is usually considered as “ball trailer hitch.” On the other hand, there are also, what is called “fifth wheel hitches” and the “gooseneck trailer hitches”.
It is also vital that you have a truck that is strong enough to haul whatever it is that is attached to the trailer hitch. Your truck need to have engine strength that is enough to build up the proper momentum necessary to pull the trailer. If you rarely see cars that are equipped with trailer hitches, this is the main reason why.
Furthermore, the trailer hitches need to be installed correctly to the truck. This is important or else, all of the hitch rig may come off and leave your cargo behind. Usually, a certain kind of bumper that is installed under the truck’s tailgate is where the hitch must be mounted. This rig’s strength is the determinant on how much weight your hitch could handle. Different classes of trailer hitches can pull different amounts of weight. The weakest are the Class 1 trailer hitches, since they can only pull up to 2000 lbs. the strongest are the Class 5 trailers since their pulling capacity reach more than 10,000 lbs.
Most sport utility vehicles
and pickup trucks have ball trailer hitches. Their hitches consist of metal balls attached to a socket on the cargo area. Larger trailer hitch balls can usually support more weight than the smaller ones. The ball trailer hitches can be used for several purposes than other trailer hitches types. They can even be used in hauling campers, small cargo trailers and boats.
Balls are also used in gooseneck trailer hitches but are attached differently onto the truck. They are attached at the truck bed’s top rather than at the truck’s bumper.
The strongest type of trailer hitch is the fifth wheel trailer hitches. They are used in carrying heavy cargo and the most heavy-duty cargo trucks usually employ fifth wheel hitches.

The US Army offers exciting and rewarding career openings for heavy construction equipment operators with relevant skills and experience. The key duties of heavy construction equipment operators in the US military are to operate various machineries such as crawler and wheeled tractors with dozer attachments, scoop loader, motor grader and towed or self propelled scraper. The job requires skills to interpret information on grade stakes. In the course of their duties, these operators would clear grubs, strips, fill material with scrapers, make excavations and load different material using a loader. They would also be expected to spread material evenly and level out ground, construct ditch using a grader, lift and move steel and other heavy building materials using winches, cranes, and hoists, and dig holes and trenches using power shovels. Other common tasks include the transportation of heavy material and construction equipment using tractor and trailer to provide assistance during engineering missions under combat conditions.
Heavy equipment operators in the army would also be called upon to construct berms, excavate side slopes with a crawler tractor, perform grading and finish side slopes mixing stabilizing material with soil and surface and drainage maintenance. The physical demands for the initial award of MOS (Military Occupation Specialty) are extremely high. A physical profile conforming to 222221 as per US Army standards is essential. It is also a critical criterion that the incumbent should not be colorblind.
To qualify for a job as a heavy equipment operator in the US army, a minimum score of 90 in the aptitude area, GM is expected. A valid state motor vehicle operator license is also a prerequisite. The induction provided to a new recruit in this position consists of nine weeks of Basic Training and four to twelve weeks of AIT (Advanced Individual Training) in Missouri. The training period for different construction equipment differs and the length of the initial training would depend on the equipment to be operated on the first assignment. Seven weeks of training is also provided on how to operate and perform general operator level maintenance to 5-ton dump trucks, M 915 tractor with semi trailer, dozer, grader, scraper and scoop loader. After successful completion of the course, there may be further training for operation of other equipment depending on the requirements of the duties to be assigned in the place of posting.
The Initial Entry Training or the IET is essentially intended to transform a civilian into a technically and tactically competent soldier and to inculcate in him the values of the US army. This process is a tough and comprehensive process, which requires complete dedication on the part of the trainee to completely transform in accordance with the requirements of a distinguished military career. In the initial phase of training, together with familiarizing the trainee with the goals and values of a military career, focus is also placed on the development of the individual basic combat skills and physical fitness.
The second phase of training for a heavy equipment operator is called the GUNFIGHTER phase and as the name suggests, it focuses on weaponry training. These fairly long and intensive training processes culminate in the making of a competent combatant with special skills as a heavy equipment operator.
The pay and benefits for a heavy equipment operator are as per US Army standards for soldiers. On completion of military service, there exist scores of opportunities for being employed in the civilian sector also.
